20 entries for Homestead
Part-timer's help fill grid

Twenty cars will contest the opening round of the 2007 IndyCar Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday night, March 23 as the Indy Racing League released their first official entry list of the 2007 season.

Included in the twenty entries is the Dallara of Curb/Agajanian/Beck Motorsports who surprised many by announcing their intent to run a limited 2006 schedule starting with Homestead. No driver was named for the opener, though Davey Hamilton is expected to drive the car at Kansas and Indianapolis.

Also on the entry list is businessman turned racer Marty Roth who will run a limited schedule of oval races again this season.

That leaves the IRL with just 18 full-time cars, presuming the #5 Dreyer and Reinbold Racing car of Sarah Fisher runs the road courses, which is being planned, but is not official.

The addition of some part-time entries is considered a positive for a series that desperately needs the new teams – even if they are returning entrants like Beck. Fernandez Racing shut down their IndyCar Series operation this off season when the team was unable to land any solid sponsorship. A deal with PJ Chesson fell apart when his sponsor agreed to terms, but did not come up with the money on time.

Another part-time entry is being put together for Venezuelan sportscar driver, Milka Duno. Her SAMAX Grand Am team has reportedly purchased a Dallara chassis from the now mothballed Hemelgarn Racing.

Duno is tentatively planning to run 10 races, starting with the Kansas event and carrying through the summer.

Among the series regulars for 2007 are four series champions, (Sam Hornish, Jr., Dan Wheldon, Scott Dixon, and Scott Sharp), and four Indy 500 winners (Hornish, Wheldon, Helio Castroneves, and Buddy Rice).

The line-up for Homestead will feature ten foreign born drivers and nine Americans with the Beck entry to be announced.
