Briscoe back in IndyCar
|
Luczo-Dragon Racing was the surprise name when the Indianapolis Motor Speedway released the entry list for the 2007 Indianapolis 500.
While the name of the team was brand new, some very familiar names are involved in the project. Co-owners Steve Luczo and Jay Penske enter the Indianapolis 500 for the first time with the help of Penske Racing. Penske, son of racing legend and 14 time winning Indy 500 car owner Roger Penske, has assembled the team with the assistance of Penske Racing.
The new team will utilize a pair of Dallara chassis leased from Penske Racing along with the equipment needed to run the race. The team has tapped long time International Race of Champions Jay Signore as the team manager.
Behind the wheel of the Symantec sponsored effort will be Ryan Briscoe. Briscoe has ties to the Penske organization as well as one of the drivers of the Penske Racing American LeMans Series program. Briscoe has driven for both Target Chip Ganassi Racing and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing previously in the IndyCar Series with one previous start at Indianapolis. The Sydney, Australia native started 24th in the 2005 race, finishing 10th.
A Top Ten finish in his rookie year combined with entering the race with the support of the defending Indy 500 Champions has Briscoe excited about the opportunity.
"My experience at the Speedway provides me with a lot of confidence as I head into my second month of May at Indianapolis. I am looking forward to the chance to build on what I experienced as a rookie."
Briscoe ran just four races in 2006 season in the IndyCar Series but scored a third in his first outing for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing at Watkins Glen and followed up with a top ten run at Nashville.
