Red flags at the Indy 500
Rain halts play after 113 laps

While the race got underway as scheduled, the Indianapolis 500 was halted after 113 of the scheduled 200 laps after heavy rain started to fall. At the time Tony Kanaan had just made a pass for the lead over Andretti Green team-mate Marco Andretti to take the lead with Danica Patrick running in third position ahead of Vitor Meira in the Panther machine.
Technically the race can be classified after 101 laps, but circuit official have called on the corner workers and track staff to run around the 2.5 mile oval and there is some hope that the remaining laps can be run later today before the light becomes an issue.
So far we have seen Roberto Moreno, Jon Herb, Milka Duno, John Andretti and Phil Giebler all crash out of the action while pre-race favourite Dan Wheldon runs just 13th for Ganassi Racing.
Sam Hornish Jr is just 15th after cutting across Tomas Scheckter and cutting his left rear tire while fellow Penske team-mate Helio Castroneves has worked his way up the order from 25th to sixth after a fuel filling issue in the pits early on.
Stay tuned as hopefully the race will be concludes this afternoon and not declared as it stands…
