Scheckter finished in 7th

Vision Racing drivers Tomas Scheckter and Davey Hamilton led the team in the rain-shortened and bizarre 91st running of the Indianapolis 500 with seventh and ninth place finishes, respectively. Teammates A.J. Foyt IV and Ed Carpenter were 14th and 17th.

It was perhaps one of the wildest runnings of the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" ever recorded, which included a three-hour rain delay, 24 lead changes amongst nine different drivers, 11 cautions, one penalty and just 166 laps as rain returned late in the day, giving Dario Franchitti of Andretti Green Racing his first victory at the Brickyard.

Scheckter, who started 10th for the third time at Indianapolis in six attempts, led the team with a seventh place finish in the No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone. He ran as high as second place in the race. He has led 148 laps at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in his career (85 in 2002 and 63 in 2003) and was named the Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year in 2002.

Today's seventh place finish was Scheckter's second best on the famed 2.5-mile oval, as he captured a fourth place finish in 2003. Not to mention, Scheckter continues his streak of top 10 finishes in 2007 with five in as many races. The effort allows him to remain seventh in the IndyCar Series championship point standings.

One of the biggest story lines this month of May belonged to Hamilton, who persevered through two dozen surgeries and six years of rehabilitation after an accident at Texas Motor Speedway to make his return to the cockpit at Indianapolis.

Starting 20th in the No. 02 HP Vision Racing machine, Hamilton battled for much of the race and the same determination that got him back behind the wheel also served him well today, as he drove to a ninth place finish in his seventh attempt. Hamilton ran as high as fifth today while the 44-year-old's career best finish at Indianapolis is fourth in 1998.

Foyt earned a career-best finish at Indianapolis today, piloting the No. 22 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone to the 14th spot after starting in 18th. He ran as high as eighth in his fourth try at Indianapolis and the solid run bumped him up two spots in the championship point standings to 13th.

The No. 20 Hitachi Power Tools ran as high as fourth today, but a heavy accident just ahead of Carpenter in the closing laps resulted in damage to his car, thus causing him to crash a lap just before race officials called the race due to rain. The incident left Carpenter two laps down in the 17th spot.

Carpenter also drove a tough race, even overcoming the loss of a lap after the rain delay, yet circumstances out of his control forced him to retire early. In spite of the misfortune, Carpenter did move up one point in the point standings to the 16th position.

Also of note, team co-owner and famed actor Patrick Dempsey drove the pace car to start the 91st running of the Indianapolis 500 today.

The team will immediately return to action next Sunday at the famous Milwaukee Mile for the ABC Supply/A.J. Foyt Indy 225: a 225-lap, 225-mile event.
