Franchitti thrilled with the big win
Indy 500 - Andretti Green - Race

Dario Franchitti became the second Scotsman to win the Indianapolis 500, claiming the victory in the rain-shortened 91st edition of the event. Franchitti ran solidly in the top five throughout the first half of the race before the race was delayed for several hours due to rain. When the action resumed on the track, Franchitti was forced to make a pit stop on the parade lap due to a cut tire. Due to the early stop, Franchitti fell from the fifth spot to the 12th position. Franchitti quickly moved to the front of the field to take the lead on lap 137 and remained the race leader until the checkered flag fell on lap 166.
Franchitti earned his first victory of the season followed by Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves, Sam Hornish Jr. and Ryan Briscoe. Franchitti trails IndyCar Series points leader, Dixon by just three points heading into the sixth race of the season. Marco Andretti suffered an accident near the end of the rain-shortened race while Tony Kanaan, who led the most laps of the race, suffered a spin late in the rain-shortened race and finished 12th. Danica Patrick finished eighth and Michael Andretti was 13th.
Dario Franchitti
"I can hardly believe it. Who would have thought it? I have to thank the entire Canadian Club team. The reason we went for that strategy was because we cut a tire on some debris and had to make the pit stop. And these guys called a great race. I was saving fuel under the yellow. I was saving so much fuel. I just can't believe it. I have to thank everybody at AGR and all of our sponsors. I couldn't believe it, just driving in there. It's fantastic. To be a member of this club is fantastic. It could have been any one of the five of us (AGR team members) today. We were unlucky in the first stint of the race and I'm really glad we got to run the second part (after the rain). I kind of have half an idea of what it means to win this race now. I couldn't be happier."
Allen McDonald, Franchitti Race Engineer
"This is such a fantastic day. Congratulations to Dario for driving a great race and sticking with it. There were so many of us on different strategies and it worked for us today. I have to give a lot of credit to the Canadian Club crew. They got Dario in and out of the pits all day without incident and they deserve a lot of the credit for the win. Dario is a great race car driver and I'm thrilled for him to be called an Indianapolis 500 champion. Congratulations to everyone at Andretti Green Racing."
Danica Patrick
"The Motorola car was very good and I felt like we had a chance today. As you could see throughout the race, someone at AGR was always in a position to win. I'm just glad one of my team-mates was able to win. There were a few cars that played the strategy right and unfortunately we ended up eighth. It was obviously not what we wanted since we were running second for a long time at the end. Definitely a disappointing day but I'm glad Dario was able to win and I'm glad the team won."
Tony Kanaan
"I don't know what happened on the restart. I don't even know who crashed. I spun but managed to keep it on the track and after that I knew the day was over. This is Indianapolis and this is the way it is. It's too bad because the Team 7-Eleven car was the best car I've ever had at Indianapolis. It was a bad day for me but became a good day for Dario and his team. If I could pick anybody to win besides me and Michael (Andretti), it would be Dario. He is one of the biggest reasons I signed with this team and it was a good day for him. One of my best friends won today and I'm so happy for him."
Eric Cowdin, Kanaan Race Engineer
"The first thing I have to say is congratulations to the Canadian Club team. There is no one in here who deserves the victory more. It is unfortunate for Team 7-Eleven because we had a fast car and worked all month to get to that point. If I learned anything this month it is that nothing is ever handed to you and you have to keep after it; that's why people come back. Trying to win this race is as addictive as anything you'll find in this world. I guarantee we'll be back and don't bet against Tony."
Michael Andretti
"It's still all about winning, isn't it? That's why we have five cars out there. Hopefully one of them is going to be in the right position and that's what happened. At the first part of the race, we had three in a good position. In the end, we had one. Lucky that it was Dario. That's the way it works out for us. Like I said, we're all about the win. We're very happy today that Dario was able to get it. I'm so very happy for him personally. He deserves it. He's been such a big part of Andretti Green Racing since day one. He's helped build it to where it is today. I'm just so happy that he was able to get the benefits of that. I'm really happy for him."
Marco Andretti
"I'm going to be bruised, but to come out of that bruised, I'm going to be happy. I'm very lucky, for sure. What's making me overcome the bruises right now is this (pointing to Victory Lane). I'm so happy for Dario, that's all I can say. I don't really know what happened to get me sideways but I was upside down for a long time. My mirror was broke, so I had no idea who was outside me, whoever it was. I think it might have been Dan (Wheldon). I apologize. It's just one of those days where I lost the balance. It rained, we went out, and I was nowhere. The NYSE car was definitely a contender in the beginning."
Eddie Jones, Andretti Race Engineer
"Congratulations to Dario, Allen (McDonald) and the entire Canadian Club crew. What a great day for them. It was very disappointing day for us. I think the first part of the race, prior to the rain, the NYSE team showed our true competitiveness. After the rain, we pitted for what we thought would be the final stint, and really felt quite strong. Obviously Marco never intended to ruin anyone else's race either when he collided with Dan (Wheldon). That was very unfortunate. But, the main thing is that he's alright. I think Marco showed his true skill today. We were definitely in contention and a top-three car."
